The new Black Eyed Peas music video takes a kind bow in the direction of the fabulous short film PIXELS www.vimeo.com/13362364 by Patrick Jean.

We finished 17 shots for the new video in 3 weeks and took over and redid 1 shot from Asylum VFX that ironically dropped dead on deadline day :(
I did the initial R&D (you might have seen this: www.vimeo.com/14869572), the master particle setup and rendering setup as well as most of the rendering. Particle Flow Box#2's BirthGrid as well as a Particle Flow Box#3's abilities to read geometry parameters and shaders did speed up the workflow dramatically. Fergie's materialization was achieved by John Rand with Krakatoa PRT Volumes and KCMs as well as Krakatoa Particle Flow operators. Renderings done with VRay. Supervision, some 3D and Comp done by Rodrigo Washington/Animaholics.

This is an R&D piece about shape generation.

The high res model is prefractured with "deconstructor" by Marc Lorenz then passed on to particle flow's BirthGroup and triggered with a deflector. The particles drift away and ease into their final shape, rotation and position. Every fragment maintains it's original Mental Ray or VRay shader (Model is from Evermotion's Car Collection).

Just a fancy way to build up what ever object you can fracture

http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbulletin/showthread.php?49472-melt

Here is my latest doodle "deflated" i did waiting on simulations to finish on my other machine

http://www.incendii.com/gallery/deflated.jpg

The model is a hires 2010 CAMARO from the Evermotion Car Collection. Some postwork in PS of course but the model itself is pretty much what came out of Max. To "deflate" the camaro i used the same technique as in the "melt" image but with alot more particles and alot higher resolution mesh. I created a low poly version of the camaro and filled it with aruond 1500 particles in particle flow, then i used the PhysXGlue feature in the Particle Flow Toolbox2 to glue the particles together very loosley to achieve the gello/gooey consistancy. Then i used the Particle Skinner to skin wrap the highres camaro to teh particles. The viewport previews of the wobbly car look rather funny, i might post them later
Commens & Critiques are welcome as usual
I used FumeFX to drive the swirly motion of the basic skirt layer then piped that motion into Particle Flow and wrapped it into Glu3D using it´s PWrapper. For all the splashes and splash streaks i used the Particle Flow Toolbox #3 which gives way better and more versatile control over all the motion going on than the regular Particle Flow operators. Especially "Random Walk", "Blur Wind" and "Cache Disk" came handy here. Then again the particles were wrapped into a PWrapper for meta particle generation. So it´s a pretty good canon between FumeFX and Particle Flow Toolbox #3 for the motion. I simulated 4 layers of water motion/splashes in total. Then i set up a very straight foreward water/glas VRay material not even worth to be explained any further. To have a nice alpha channel i modeled the woman´s chest and upper legs in lowpoly and camera projected the stock image on it using CameraMapperPixel on a standard material, as basic as it can be The lights and camera were matched to the stock image and then every layer was rendered with VRay. Post effects done in PhotoShop.

I decided to create an image showing this technique. I was inspired by the Venus by Milo of cause I used 3D Studio Max 7.1 for the ParticleSplines and PhotoShop CS2 and AfterEffects 6.1 for the decent postproduction (to comp together color-,specular-, ambient occlusion pass and the background image. Color corrention and little glow/grain here and there) Productiontime was about 10day on and off excluding rendertime. This image won the 2nd plance at the Animago 2006 awards in the category Home>Still>Art by the way.

I used 3D Studio MAX 7 with Vray.
The Model is from the "De Espona Model Collection" so NON of the modeling work was done by me. Please no credits for this part.
I textured this tank in Bodypaint3D with a wacom graphire3 tablet.
Now the really interesting facts about this location ;-) it´s a training spot for our army near my parents house. The three destroyed tanks are a memorial of WW2. The day i took this picture the sky was brilliant for taking reference pictures. Nearlly a clear 128,128,128 RGB value of the sky :-D
This Image won the 1st place at the Animago Award 2005 in the category Education>Still>Vehicles.
